Example of Book Report
Title, Genre, and Author:
The book I chose for my Realistic Fiction novel was There's A Boy In The Girl's Bathroom by Louis Sachar. I chose this book because it was recommended to me by the librarian.
Characters:
Bradley Chalkers: main character, 12 year old boy that is faced with many challenges.
Carla Davis: school counselor whom Bradley develops a friendship with.
Jeff Fishkin: one of Bradley's only friends in 5th grade.
Mrs. Ebbel: Bradley's 5th grade teacher
Mrs. Chalkers: Bradley's mom
Ronnie, Bartholomew, and friends: Bradley's stuffed animals whom he talks with frequently.
Plot:
In the beginning of the book Bradley Chalkers is a troubled student. He does not do his homework, has a bad attitude, and is not liked by others. Bradley has a bad habit of lying to everyone. Finally, his mom and teacher decide that he should start to see Carla, the school counselor.
In the middle of the book, Bradley beings seeing Carla on a regular basis. At first he did not like going to her office, but soon him and Carla become friends. He established a friendship with a new student in his class named Jeff Fishkin but soon Bradley betrays him and Jeff is no longer his friend. Throughout the book Bradley is infatuated with all the gold stars that other students earn on a chart in the classroom. Bradley has never earned one, and he longed to get one.
In the end Bradley becomes determined to earn a gold star. He begins doing his homework but for some reason he rips it up every time he tries to turn it in. He continues his hard work, and finally with Carla's help he earns a gold star. Along with earning a gold star he develops self-confidence, self control, and friendship with others!
Recommendation:
In conclusion, I would highly recommend this book to others. On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the best), I would rate this book a 5. It is a great story about determination to overcome everyday obstacles.
